The Earnhardt Nation

Infineon Raceway is not a NASCAR race! Any time a driver has to turn right, he should turn around and go home!

I checked twice. I was on the right channel. It was the right time. The cars were turning left but then they turned right. Turned right! This isn't NASCAR! The cars looked like NEXTEL CUP cars. Some of the drivers looked familiar. But turned right? I must be lost on the television dial (for the young, dials were before remotes). Then I saw him! Dale Earnhardt Junior was there. The red Number 8 was in the starting grid. Say it ain't so Dale Junior! Turning right? You never turn right. Turning right is for Europeans and we didn't have to be a peein'.

Sure Gordon turns right. Smoke even turns right. But it's just wrong to see an Earnhardt turn right. I know I have heard the stories that Dale Senior turned right, but I don't believe that. Then the race started. Of course, the first wreck was on the first lap. I think someone forgot to turn right. Then about a thousand laps later and several short naps the race was nearing the end. Gordon was leading. No surprise that the Rainbow boy turns a different way with ease. Stewart was near the front but fading fast with his nickname bellowing from his pipes. Where was Dale? Did he go home during one of my naps? No, I see him. Twenty-second place. Relief came over me. Junior does not turn right, well. How could he? He is third generation left turn only.
Then a red flag and another nap later the race was over.  Jeff Gordon won his ninth road race. Tony Stewart fell all the way to twenty-eighth. Junior finished twenty-sixth. It was a great day in the Earnhardt Nation. Dale can not turn right. He did put up with the nonsense long enough to get 85 points and only dropped one spot in the standings. He is now fifth with the Pepsi 400 and a sure victory next week.

Surely at Daytona International Speedway, next week, they will turn left. It will be great to see a real NASCAR race after taking this week off.
